What do Repulse Bay, Mid-Levels, and the Poland Consulate all have in common? This month: frosting. Lots of it.
June at Baking Maniac was a sugar-fueled sprint through Hong Kong — 10 offsite birthday party workshops, dozens of cake pops, and enough chocolate to make a dentist weep. Our team? Running on buttercream and vibes.
Let’s start at the top. Father’s Day called for something classic — rich chocolate cake with a view, so we set up shop in Repulse Bay with Signature Homes and let kids channel their inner pâtissier. There were ganache drips, there were heartfelt toppers, there were kids who used so much gold leaf their cake looked like a treasure.
Then came the Poland Consulate’s Family Day, where we led a chaotic and charming cupcake jamming session. Imagine a room full of kids, diplomats, and about 10,000 sprinkles. Beautiful!
Next? Cake pop madness. We hosted birthday party workshops in at home (twice — sisters, separate weekends, very fair), plus another in Mid-Levels. The energy: low-key luxury meets sugar rush. Think tiny round cakes on sticks, finished with edible glitter and a healthy amount of pink
We kept things seasonally appropriate with a Summer Bake-Off, where creativity was encouraged and structure was optional!. And for our more adventurous bakers? The Forest Animal “Nailed It!” Workshop — aka a safari of fondant gone slightly rogue. Somehow, every lopsided animal was adorable.
Kids (and let’s be honest, a few adults) lost their minds over our Roblox-themed birthday party workshop, which we ran twice because Roblox is the best.
Then came the Macaron workshop — pastel perfection! And the Bake-Off Competition.
Finally, our Smash Chocolate Workshop gave people the one thing we all crave: permission to break things. With tiny hammers. It was therapeutic, chic, and messy in all the right ways.
On some weekends, we ran four birthday party workshops at once in different corners of the city — Repulse Bay, Mid-Levels, anywhere with a table and an oven. Our team split like a rom-com couple at the airport: emotional, determined, wearing aprons.
We survived. The cakes were cute. The kids were absolutely adorable and highly creative. And every single person left with frosting under their nails and a grin on their face.
Here’s to July — may it be just as sweet, just as chaotic, and ideally, a little less humid.
