Our Top Cake Trends for 2026: What’s Taking the Cake This Year!

Hey Baking Maniac fam!
Can you believe we’re already halfway through 2026? It feels like just yesterday we were dreaming up our first cake designs for the year, and now we’re right in the thick of wedding and celebration season! Here at Baking Maniac, we’ve been absolutely buzzing in the studio, and it’s been so much fun seeing which trends you all are loving the most. While simple and delicious is always in style, 2026 has been all about artistry, opulence, and deeply personal details. Our couples and clients are skipping the "traditional" and going for what truly makes them happy—and we are here for it!

Here are our top cake trends for 2026 so far:

  1. The Viral Dot Cake (Our Absolute Favorite!)

If you’ve been on social media at all this year, you’ve definitely seen this one! The Viral Dot Cake has officially taken over, and it is hands-down one of our top trends for 2026. These cakes are all about that perfect "cap" of sprinkles—usually nonpareils—dipped over a smooth layer of frosting. It’s playful, it’s chic, and it’s the ultimate "treat yourself" moment.

We’ve had so many requests for these that we’ve added a dedicated collection to our shop! Whether you’re celebrating a birthday or just a Tuesday, you can grab yours here:

2. Vintage Vibes & "Just Married" Hearts

The nostalgia is real! Vintage-style cakes with heavy Lambeth piping and intricate ruffles have been huge this July. We’ve been making a lot of vintage heart cakes, often topped with a simple, sweet "Just Married" or "Happy Birthday" in a playful illustrative style. It’s kitschy, it’s romantic, and it looks incredible in photos.

3. Baroque Opulencez

For those who want a bit more drama, Baroque details have been a massive hit this summer. We’re talking intricate moulding, gold leaf, and architectural elements that make the cake look like it belongs in a museum. It’s a natural extension of the vintage trend but with a lot more "wow" factor. We’ve been steering our clients toward hand-piped Baroque elements to keep things artistic and unique!

4. Long Wedding Cakes/Slab Wedding Cakes

This is one of the most exciting silhouettes we've seen this year! Instead of the traditional towering tiers, many couples are opting for Long Wedding Cakes—also known as table runner cakes. These cakes are low, long, and absolutely stunning when displayed across a head table. They offer a modern, communal feel and provide a massive canvas for beautiful decorations like painted buttercream or fresh florals.

5. Fruit Adornments & Sculptures

Fruit is everywhere this July! But instead of just a few berries on top, we’re seeing fruit used as a primary design element. Think "fruit everywhere"—grapes, cherries, and even citrus slices worked into the piped designs or arranged as sculptural focal points. It adds such a fresh, natural vibe to a summer celebration.
